Eighteenth century At the end of the Peninsula castle within the Dominican monks began to build a big church. 1822 - 1823 in work in progress build one nave church monks installed a chapel, and another - the monastery.
1864, tsarist authorities closed the monastery, the buildings were transferred to administrative bodies. The monastery buildings in Tsarist Russia was located ochranka (secret police), the Polish management during the period - the border police. 1944 Dominican monastery, the Soviet government has been installed at the premises of the NKVD prison, and later during the Soviet years, there have been located by police, the local KGB department. Since 1990 former Dominican monastery located in the premises of the Trakai History Museum Administration.
